About us

When we launched the reparations campaign in 2021, we believed that centering the experiences of Black students, families and educators in Oakland Unified was necessary to amplify the need for systemic change. As we began the year in 2024, we looked back on all the organizing, advocating and camaraderie this campaign has activated and we are grateful to each and every one in Oakland and beyond for asking standing for Reparations for Black Students.

Our demand remains simple: close the opportunity gap for Black students, families and educators by 2026 by stop doing harm, repair the harm and invest in expanding opportunities. Unfortunately, OUSD is far from meeting our campaign demands. And, thus our organizing will continue until there is real justice for Black students, families and educators.

This is why we launched our PAC. Out of the frustration from being ignored, Oakland students, parents and educators want to participate in the selection of candidates to ensure we have a real voice in this district and city.
